Units

A unit is a group of participants who have a desired qualification (in the form of a label). So, here you define, for example, that your ambulance will be manned by an emergency paramedic and a paramedic. This allows you to map vehicles, foot units and more.

You can then combine several units in a scenario, e.g. to form an AAO.

In the unit overview, you can see the unique ID, the name incl. description and the necessary labels that make up your units. In addition, you can show the external identifier, the status, and the position.

Create and edit units

1️⃣ To create a new unit, select the CREATE UNIT button above the list. You can also create categories for your units using CREATE CATEGORY. These categories help you keep track of a large number of units. Units can then be selected according to your categories, e.g. for alarms or in the monitor.

2️⃣ All units are clearly displayed in the unit list. You can use the three lines in the upper right corner to customise the columns that are displayed. To keep track of a large number of units, you can filter the units. To do this, you can filter by unit name or select the corresponding category of units you want to display. A combination of both is also possible. Only the units with the corresponding name that are in the selected category will then be displayed. To edit or delete an existing unit, click on the corresponding icon in the list.

Configuring a unit

A unit is configured when it is created or edited.

1️⃣ You can specify a name and a short description to identify your unit. These will then be displayed in the unit overview.

2️⃣ The function Protect unit from deletion means that the unit cannot be deleted in the unit overview. If you want to delete such a unit, you must first remove the protection.

3️⃣ You can freely choose the External identifier of a unit. The identifier is used to address the unit via API interface or flow. Here, for example, the name of the unit from your operations control system can be used. If the operations control system then communicates with GroupAlarm via API interface, the unit can be addressed directly via the external name.

4️⃣ Here you can optionally specify the category of your unit. The categories allow you to categorise your units.

5️⃣ The status of your unit can be set manually here. You can configure the status of your organisation in the Organisation settings. In addition to manually selecting the status, the status can also be set via the API interface.

6️⃣ You can manually set the position of your unit in the address input field. The position of the unit can then be displayed on the monitor in the Map panel, for example. In addition to manually selecting the position, the position can also be set via the API interface.

7️⃣ The labels that you store in your unit determine which labels and associated participants are to be alerted. Any number of labels can be assigned per unit. If only a limited number of participants are required, e.g. to man a vehicle, you can specify a staffing level. If you want to alert all participants of a label, please click on the infinity symbol.

Alarm triggering with external identifier.

Triggering an alarm is also possible with the external identifiers of your units. To do this, use the array unitExternalIDs in the field alarmResources in our API, which accepts the identifiers and converts them into the stored units.

To documentation

The specification of an external identifier is also possible when an alarm is triggered by the flow.

Status of a unit

We supply a standard set of statuses for your units. If these do not fit your needs, you can delete existing statuses, adjust them or create new ones in the organization settings. Resetting to our standard statuses is also possible there.

If you specify that alerting is not possible in a certain status, a unit that is in this status will not be alerted.

Units with statuses can also be automatically set to a status of your choice as soon as they are alerted or the event in which they are booked is closed.

To keep the status of your units up to date with as little effort as possible, we recommend that you use the interfaces provided for this purpose. These allow you to update the status using the unit's ID or external identifier without affecting the rest of the configuration.

Position of a unit

The position of a unit is determined by its coordinates. You can maintain these either manually in the frontend or via our interface.

To keep the position of your units up to date with as little effort as possible, we recommend that you use the interfaces provided for this purpose. These allow you to update the position using the ID or the external identifier of the unit without influencing the rest of the configuration.

Delete unit

To delete an existing unit, click on the bin icon in the list. Confirm the operation afterwards.

If the deletion is not successful, please check whether the unit is still being used in a scenario or is protected from deletion.
